This study is aimed at cancer patients who have completed treatment, to explore the relationship between social support and emotional adjustment after treatment, and to understand the role of gender in it. Reviewing the past literature, it is found that after treatment, the patient's social support provider may think that after the patient's treatment is over, the pressure will end, and it will be less likely to continue to provide support to the patient, and the literature is less focused on exploring gender differences. How it affects the association between social support and emotional adjustment. This study uses the social support scale to understand the type and source of social support of patients, and uses the emotional state scale to understand the positive and negative emotions of patients. Therefore, this study aims to explore the relationship between the type and source of social support and the emotional adjustment of patients. And understand which types of social support will bring better emotional adjustment to patients under different genders.
In this study, cancer patients in the Department of Radiation Oncology of Chang Gung Memorial Hospital, Linkou were used as the research object, and 55 patients with cancer were studied by convenient sampling methods, and population background data, social support scale, and emotional state scale were completed.
The research results show that (1) After treatment, social support is significantly related to both positive and negative emotions. Among them, emotional support, informational support, appraisal support, and instrumental support are significantly positively related to positive emotions; emotional support, informational support and appraisal support are significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions, and emotional support, informational support, and appraisal support all appear more often in patients' lives than instrumental support. (2) In the case of support from family and friends, emotional support, appraisal support and positive emotions are significantly positively correlated; emotional support, informational support, appraisal support, and instrumental support are significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions. For male patients, emotional support and appraisal support are significantly related to their positive and negative emotions. For female patients, appraisal support , instrumental support are significantly positively correlated with positive emotions; informational support, appraisal support, instrumental support are significantly negatively correlated with negative emotions, and from the results of regression analysis, instrumental support does have an important influence on their positive emotions. However, the emotional support of female patients has not reached a significant level, but the relevant values are still not low, which may be due to the small sample of this study, so it is speculated that emotional support is still important for female patients. (3) In the case of medical staff providing support, emotional support, informational support, and appraisal support are significantly positively correlated with positive emotions. For men, emotional support is significantly positively correlated with positive emotions, for women , instrumental support will have a significant positive correlation with positive emotions, and informational support will have a significant negative correlation with negative emotions.
