The plant location problem exists in diverse industries that are influenced by globalization, intense market competition as well as industrial migration, and rolling flat dies industry, one of the suppliers of the screw fastener industry, is no exception. Many criteria must be considered when evaluating plant locations and those criteria may have different importance. Therefore, evaluating plant locations is a multiple criteria decision-making problem. The purpose of this study is to evaluate and select plant locations by an analytic hierarchy process (AHP) based ELimination Et Choice Translating Reality (ELECTRE) method. The AHP method is used to obtain the criteria weights, while the ELECTRE method is used to complete the ranking procedure of the alternative locations for decision-making. The thread rolling flat dies is one of Taiwan’s traditional manufacturing industries which faces plant migration problems. In this study, a numerical example of plant location selection of a thread rolling flat dies company in Taiwan is conducted to demonstrate the feasibility of the suggested method. Finally, numerical comparisons of two different derivations of weights in AHP and several ranking approaches in ELECTRE is made to display that the ranking order of alternative locations may differ if ratings of alternative locations versus qualitative criterion differ and some other interesting findings.
