本研究設計了一個實行在課堂上的機制對學生進行實驗。我們先將學生隨機分組,而在這機制下,學生可以透過換組來改變分數回報或是組別結構。我們欲透過這研究觀察學生們的選擇偏好,並且比較不同選擇的結果所帶來的改變,以回答兩個問題:第一,在兩種情況下,不勞而獲的情況下獲得加分以及須付出努力的形況下獲得加分的選擇下,學生會做出什麼選擇; 第二,什麼樣結構的組別設計能夠使學生們在我們的機制下更多的提升學習表現?
經過研究,我們發現加分的多寡對學生換組行為沒有顯著影響,而朋友數量顯著的影響了學生換組的機率,但這並不意味著學生做出了提升學習成效的選擇,因為無論是出於什麼樣的動機所重組的組別,在學習表現上都沒有顯著上的改變。這個研究結果與我們的預期結果不一致,針對這個結果,我們推論相較於加分量,良好的團隊氣氛是學生更重視的。

This study wants to investigate the incentive of students to change the group, the score incentive, friend incentive, or no incentive. We implement an experiment in the class of statistics at the undergraduate level. There are one assignment and four quizzes in this experiment. If the students want to obtain the extra scores, they have to reduce the standard deviation of group score. We group the students randomly before the assignment and allow students to change their group to get extra scores in the following four quizzes. The costs of changing group are zero because they are re-grouped by the teaching assistant.
In this experiment, though we find that the groups are formed by three incentive types, friend incentive dominates the group change more than the score incentive and no incentive, which means the students prefer to stay with friends. As for the class performance, there is no significant difference between the groups with different incentive types. In response to this result, we extrapolate that a good team atmosphere is more important to students than extra points.
