The purpose of this research is to study the characteristics of the thickness of the recast layer and the groove width change of the nickel-based alloy Rene108 during the EDM of fine groove. The electrolytic copper electrode with a width of 0.8 mm, and the processing depth is 5 mm. The first part uses Taguchi method L_8 (2^7 ) orthogonal table to plan the experimental parameters, and the factors include voltage-voltage polarity, high-peak current, low-peak current, pulse on time, pulse off time, servo interference and servo stability. The factors are screened separately for the characteristics of the thickness and groove width of the recast layer. The second part is to use the screened factors to plan the experimental parameters of the orthogonal table ,and using the Taguchi method L_9 (3^4 ) orthogonal table to analyze the optimal quality characteristics. The results show that the important factors affecting the thickness of the recast layer are low-peak current, server interference, pulse off time, voltage and voltage polarity in sequence; the important factors affecting the groove width change are pulse off time, pulse on time, voltage-voltage polarity and servo interference. The experimental result of the recast layer thickness of the optimized parameter combination is 0.006 mm, which is 50% higher than the best value of 0.009 mm in the ninth orthogonal table; the experimental result of the groove width change of the optimized parameter combination is 0.994 mm, which is in line with the eighth group. Compared with the best value 0.992 mm, it is an increase of 2.01%. This study refers to adjusting the EDM parameters of nickel-based alloy Rene108 and understand to improve the thickness of the recast layer and the groove width change.
