Plants and flowers are gorgeous and beautiful. They are subjects of the artistic creations that many artists are fond of a lot. Plants are colorful, and they also have a variety of shapes and postures, particularly including geometric shapes. Through applying constructing methods like repetitions and extensions, artists are able to combine different shapes of plants to form dazzling patterns and visual aesthetics that promote artistic exhibitions of flowers and plants images with symbolic meanings of the evolution from the representations of the nature into artists’ unique symbols in their self-creations. Flowers and plants pattern designs are widely used in installation art. They are also the most commonly-used theme in many painting and craft design creations. Decorative patterns of oriental flowers and plants often have the meaning of "auspiciousness" to express people's wishes and ideals. As the expression is related to people’s daily habits, designs with flowers and plants are mostly used in the fields of furniture, furnishings, clothing, brocade, ceramics, leather carvings and jewelry design. Traditional patterns are unavoidably and deeply influenced by history and culture, and with the integration of various types of aesthetics and philosophies, inspired by current technology, social environment, atmosphere, ideas and sense of beauty, flower pattern designs now have lines, composition, proportion, color, subject matters and application of creative expression methods that are ever-changing. In the view of the aforementioned aspects, the author of this article use the evolution and characteristics of Eastern and Western flower patterns, as well as the analysis of the different forms of creation techniques and implications of the patterns of flowers and plants, as the main theme of this essay and internalize them as the ideas for self-creations and applications for creation techniques. There are five chapters in this article: Chapter One Introduction: describing the motivation and purpose of the research as well as the content and methods of the research. Chapter Two: demonstrations and characteristics of flower patterns: discussing the origin of flower patterns, the characteristics of different eras, and the impact from the procedure of the demonstrations of flower designs and delving into the interrelationship between Eastern and Western patterns. Chapter Three - Application of Flower Patterns: analyzing the pattern application of "Art Nouveau" (1880-1910), the application of Tang grass pattern and the design techniques of modern flower pattern. Chapter Four - Elaboration of Self-Creations: Through oil painting, lacquer painting, pressed flower painting, cultural and creative concepts and other pattern design forms, analyzing the content, concept and design method of self-creations. Chapter Five - Conclusion: presenting the results of the research and creation and interpreting the basic concepts of self-defined flower design.
