Asexuality is regarded as the fourth sexual orientation independent of heterosexuality, homosexuality, and bisexuality. It represents a sexual identity. Sexuality plays an important role in our society and culture today. It is a symbol of hegemony. It is the most common biological phenomenon in reproductive life. As a result, many people who do not belong to the mainstream of heterosexuality feel that they are deviant, which in turn affects how they interact with others. This study reviewed academic researches on asexuality conducted in Taiwan and abroad from 2004 to 2021. A total of 80 articles published over the past 17 years were collected for content analysis. Ten items were coded and standardized using Excel, namely, age, researcher, journal type, the domain of researcher, the country of researcher, research topic, research method, research locale, research purpose, and the number of citations. The results of the study are as follows: (1) The number of the studies increases drastically from 2013 onward, with a fourfold growth rate. (2) In the past 17 years, the development direction of asexuality has been based on sexual orientation as the primary research (3) The most significant jump in asexuality was the issues about social support systems. This study discusses according to the research results and puts forward suggestions for future research.
