Based on the increasingly intense competition environment, employees' innovative behavior determined organizational survival and growth in the knowledge-intensive industries. High-tech companies require professional employees to tackle their jobs using the same operation. Accordingly, conformity played a vital role in imitating other employees’ jobs and influencing workplace social networks. This study examined the impacts of informational conformity and normative conformity on employees’ innovative performance. Also, two social network ties: instrumental ties and expressive ties were purposed as mediators of the link. The collected data was analyzed using AMOS statistical software for structural equation modeling. Based on the data collected from 399 R&D department heads and chosen employees, results revealed the following: employees' informational conforming behavior will enhance their innovative performance by social ties as mediators, but normative conformity has the opposite effect. The findings in our study bridged the literature gap about work conformity and employees’ innovative performance and explained the underlying process by which social network ties exert their influence on outcomes. Furthermore, the managerial implications of the research findings are discussed, and limitations and future research directions are indicated.
