The world is getting more globalized than before; trade barriers between countries are getting less and less. Therefore, opening opportunities for MNEs to invest abroad. In recent years countries work together to establish trade blocs and even deeper integration like E.U. and ASEAN, making trade easier and more attractive for investment. Many researches had been done on finding determinants of FDI in ASEAN countries throughout the years. However, only few researches focus on how political factors affect FDI inflow.
The aim of this research is to explore how political factors such as corruption, government expenditure, and government stability affect FDI inflow in ASEAN-6 countries, based on their GDP. In addition, macroeconomic variables will be included. The variables included are government stability, corruption, government expenditure, GDP per capita, openness, infrastructure, capital formation, as independent variables. The result indicates that political factors that affect FDI inflow are corruption and government expenditure. Moreover, macroeconomic variables included in this research all have impacts on FDI inflows in ASEAN-6.
