本論文旨在討論馬太福音第五章3–10節,如何以一個政治性的「收養宣告」回應當時信仰群體面臨的社會處境。筆者強調當時群體處於政治弱勢,受到主流社會權威所定義的框架壓制,因此,馬太福音運用當時社會常見的「收養宣告」作為回應的策略。在這個宣告中,天上的「父」將讀者/聽眾稱為「上帝的兒女們(υἱοὶ θεοῦ)」,藉此聲稱這個群體獲得了一個新的身分。這個身分幫助信仰群體以新的眼光看待自己,使他們在被壓迫的處境中堅持他們的身份和使命。本論文以James C. Scott的「隱藏文本(hidden transcript)」理論凸顯經文如何以「收養宣告」讓信仰群體在面對權威的威脅時,創造一個不會被羞辱的生存空間。接著,筆者提及Homi K. Bhabha的「學舌(mimicry)」理論,顯示這段經文引用當時人們熟悉的羅馬帝國政治結構,但卻用來呈現一個不同的「幸福觀」,挑戰帝國的論述。通過這兩個理論,我們看到這段經文呈現一種間接的「抵抗」,不僅讓群體內的成員能夠堅持原本的生活方式,更迫使權威正視經文所提出的挑戰。本論文認為這樣的詮釋提供台灣基督教個人與群體一個不同的眼光,讓我們重新看待信仰群體的身分,也嘗試以新的方式去回應自身的處境。這個方式不是隨波逐流,也不是逃避權威的論述,而是堅持我們是「上帝的兒女們」!
This thesis interprets the “Beatitudes” in Matthew 5:3–10 as an “adoption announcement” against the authority in the Roman Empire. This interpretation underlines the social-political context of Matthew 5:3–10 and argues that the Matthean community was under the oppression of the authority. As such, this thesis finds that Matthew adapts the “adoption announcement” constructed by the authority to proclaim that they are, actually, the “children of God (υἱοὶ θεοῦ).” Such announcement seeks to empower the Matthean community to have a new vision of themselves so that they can persist and insist on their honorable identity. This thesis uses James C. Scott’s “hidden transcript” and Homi K. Bhabha’s “mimicry” to highlight the resistance and exhortation implied in Matthew 5:3-10. The former helps us notice how Matthew uses the authority’s language to their benefits. The latter shows how Matthew alters the authority’s language to present a different view of blessings. Through these two theories, this thesis claims that Matthew 5:3–10 not only helps the Matthew community to persist in their way of life but also exposes the oppressions of the authority. This interpretation invites Taiwan Christians to see our identity in a new light and respond otherwise, not replicating the problematic social structures and values. It reminds us that in engaging the mainstream discourse of power, we should not lose sight of the fact that we are the “children of God.”
