Introduction: Personal habits and emotional changes in daily life have an impact on sleep quality and psychological characteristic, both of which lead to symptoms such as fatigue, stress, tension and anxiety. Single aerobic, resistance exercise and green tea are three different ways to improve sleep quality or psychological characteristic, respectively. Purpose: The effects of six consecutive weeks of daily supplementation with green tea extract and three times weekly combine exercise training on sleep quality and psychological characteristic were investigated. Methods: A total of 16 male and female participants (12 females and 4 males) were enrolled in the study and were divided in a double-blind manner into a green tea extract (GTE, 6 females, 2 males, n = 8) and a placebo (PLA, 6 females, 2 males, n = 8) group. Both supplements were administered at 480 mg daily, and the complex exercise training was performed 3 days per week for a total of 6 weeks. Exercise training with progressive exercise time and intensity on a stationary bicycle (exercise time 30~ 60 minutes; exercise intensity 65~ 75% VO2 max), followed by deep squatting and jumping exercises (20 reps per set, 1~ 4 sets). Sleep quality and psychological characteristic were assessed before and after the experimental intervention. Results: There were no significant differences in sleep quality and psychological characteristic between the two groups after the six-week experimental intervention in terms of factors and total scores. Both groups showed an increase in maximal oxygen intake after six weeks of training (p < .05). Conclusion: Six consecutive weeks of combine exercise training (bicycle training and squat jump training) supplemented with green tea extract did not significantly improve sleep quality and psychological quality, and increased maximum oxygen intake after six weeks of exercise training.
