Entrepreneurship makes a valuable contribution to the economies of a nation and improves the employment rate, wealth, and standard of living. Entrepreneurial ventures are the backbone of the Indian economy and contribute around 37% to the GDP. India is a developing country with the world’s largest youth and growing population needs more and more employment in coming years. To deal with the increasing unemployment and to boost the economy, new policies and investment opportunities for startups are promoted by the Indian government in past years. The number of startups is increasing day by day in India with an annual growth of 10-12%. However, most of the startups are not succeeding, and new ventures fail within 2-5 years. The purpose of this study is to identify the key success factors for entrepreneurship in India. A Delphi research
method was used with the collaboration of expert panels on entrepreneurship. A total of 15 experts including CEOs, directors, founders, owners, managers of enterprises participated in the Delphi survey. The data was collected using open-ended questionnaires in rounds 1 and a Likert type scale of importance in rounds 2 and 3. The three-round of questionnaires arrived at a consensus on the 20 key success factors for entrepreneurship. According to the experts, the most important factors are self-esteem, Willingness to Take Entrepreneurial Action, Leadership, and Honesty, The ability for teamwork, Entrepreneur skills, and Self-confidence. The key success factors identified in this study provide guidelines for entrepreneurs, management, andpolicymakers for enhancing new business success. These results also recommended that thetraining is necessary for the success of entrepreneurship in the Indian context. The findings will further deepen the understanding and enhance the existing literature on the success of entrepreneurship.
