This study is mainly focus on the measuring method of gasoline and diesel vapor leakage as the detection purpose. At present, there are not many relevant explanations on the laws and regulations for gasoline and diesel vapor leakage detection in Taiwan. And it will result that there is no alarms when the leakage happened in some cases. The most relevant regulationss are those soil vapor extraction to prevent underground gasoline and diesel tank system from polluting the land and the groundwater. However, there are huge differences between the concentrations for different measurements allowed. This study will select different detecting methods instruments for experimenting gasoline and diesel vapor detection. To compare and explore each methods’ applicability for this application. This study will use a catalytic combustion gas detector, a photoionization detector (PID) and a semiconductor gas leak detector as research subjects. And each detector will sample the prepared gasoline and diesel gas sampling bags mixed with air and nitrogen respectively. Then we compare the difference of concentration and evaluate the detection method that is relatively suitable for gasoline and diesel vapor measurement. The experiment results of the catalytic combustion gas detector is not quit suitable for the detection of diesel gas leakage. It will give false readings in anoxic environment. The photoionization detector is relatively stable in both detection of gasoline and diesel vapor leakage. Last, the semiconductor gas leakage detector is also responds to gasoline and diesel gas detection nicely. In conclusion, the catalytic combustion type gas detector has the most limit between these three detection methods according to various environmental considerations. Compared with the other two detection methods, it is less suitable for application in gasoline and diesel vapor measurement. It is recommended to take the photoionization detector as the priority when doing vapor leakage evaluation. And as the experiment result, semiconductor gas leak detection is also recommended to use in gasoline and diesel vapor detection.
