Background: Whether individuals can effectively regulate their sadness arise from interpersonal interactions may influence their psychological health. The aim of the study is to investigate the mediating effects of emotion regulation and positive and negative affect in the correlation between trait of rumination and psychological health relationship. We examine the mediating model in two types of interpersonal context, family and friend. Methods: Research data derived from secondary sources. A total of 301 community adults were recruited for the study, and they were assessed by the following measures, ERQ, CES-D, SWLS, PANAS, and RRS. Results and Discussion: The results of Structural Equation Modeling indicated that , regardless with family or friend, the direct effect of trait of rumination on depressed emotion was significant. The negative affect mediated the effects between rumination and depressed emotion was also confirmed. The results also revealed that individuals who used reappraisal to regulate sadness showed lower depressed emotion. There were no direct effects for both rumination and reappraisal on life satisfaction, however significant indirect effects were found between rumination and life satisfaction as well as reappraisal and life satisfaction. Results indicated no effect of suppression on depressed emotion and life satisfaction.
