本文將分成兩個主題來做探討，分別是「旅行」和「傳奇」。佛漢．威廉士(Ralph Vaughan Williams, 1872-1958)透過羅伯特．路易斯．史蒂文生 (Robert Louis Stevenson , 1850-1894)的詩集來譜成聯篇歌曲《旅行之歌》(Songs of Travel)，米凱萊．曼格尼 (Michele Mangani , 1966-)把喬治．蓋希文 (George Gershwin, 1898-1937)在巴黎度假所創作的管弦樂作品改成豎笛及鋼琴藍調《藍調:一個美國人在巴黎》(Blues: Un Americano a Parigi)，或是拉赫曼尼諾夫(Sergei Rachmaninoff, 1873-1943)的雙鋼琴作品《俄羅斯狂想曲》(Russian Rhapsody)取材自俄國民謠主題；聖桑 (Charles Camille Saint-Saëns, 1835-1921)利用丹麥與俄國民謠來創作《丹麥與俄羅斯歌謠隨想曲》(Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs)。
第二個主題，德佛札克(Antonín Leopold Dvořák, 1841-1904)透過詩人艾爾本(Karel Jaromír Erben, 1811-1870)的詩作《花束集》(Kytice)來作為靈感之一，創作這首四手聯彈《傳奇》(Legends Op. 59)。除了從艾爾本的詩作中獲取靈感，德佛札克也從克瓦畢爾(Jaroslav Kvapil, 1868-1950)的傳奇童話故事《水精靈魯莎卡》(Rusalka)來創作歌劇，當中最為人所知的是女高音所唱的詠嘆調《銀色月亮》(Song to the Moon)；亨利克．維尼亞夫斯基(Henryk Wieniawski, 1835-1880)，透過創作《傳奇》(Legend Op. 17)這首小提琴與鋼琴二重奏，抱得美人歸，最後也將本曲題獻給她。

This article consists of two themes, “Travel” and “ Legend.” The first theme “Travel” ,includes music that was inspired by exploring different parts of the world. Ralph Vaughan Williams (1872-1958) set Robert Louis Stevenson’s (1850-1894) poems into the song cycle, Songs of Travel. Michele Mangani’s (born 1966) Blues: Un Americano a Parigi, is a duet for clarinet and piano. This piece is a rearrangement of the orchestral piece that George Gershwin (1898-1937) wrote while he was in Paris. Russian Rhapsody, a piece for two pianos by Sergei Rachmaninoff (1873-1943) is based on Russian folk tunes. Lastly, Charles Camille Saint-Saëns (1835-1921) used Danish and Russian folksongs to compose Caprice on Danish and Russian Airs.
Second theme, “ Legend,” is tied up with motives that concern folk stories and mythology. Antonín Leopold Dvořák(1841-1904) piano four hand work, Legends Op. 59, drew inspirations from Karel Jaromír Erben’s (1811-1870) poem collection, Kytice, that contains a collection of ballads and folklores. Another work that features characters from fairytales is Dvořák’s Rusalka. This opera was written by the poet Jaroslav Kvapil (1868-1950), based on folk tales. The most famous soprano aria from this opera is “Song to the Moon”, which is included in this article. Finally, I will discuss Henryk Wieniawski’s (1835-1880) Legend Op. 17. It is a virtuosic duet for violin and piano that helped to secure Wieniawski’s engagement to Isabella Hampton, who later became his wife. Legend Op. 17 is dedicated to Hampton.
