With the rapid development of the global economy and technological advancements, animation techniques continue to innovate, and the animation industry and market are gradually growing. The rise of the animated film market is largely due to the establishment of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature in 2001, which encourages outstanding animated films. This award is highly regarded as the highest honor for animated films worldwide and is closely related to box office revenue in the animation film market. Due to the impact of the pandemic, digital streaming platforms have gradually taken up a portion of the film market. People no longer have to go to theaters to watch movies, and the same goes for animated films. This has made it more important for audiovisual content to be interesting, creative, and of high quality, with well-established brands. Consequently, attracting fans to support animated films in theaters has become more challenging. Therefore, the charm of animated films is a crucial element. A successful animated film is not just about having good visuals; it must also evoke an emotional response from the audience, which is an indispensable factor in animated films. The main purpose of this study is to explore the charm factors of the Academy Award for Best Animated Feature-winning films through affective design. The Evaluation Grid Method, a miryoku engineering approach, will be employed to conduct in-depth interviews with six experienced animation fans. The study aims to investigate the highly attractive and commercially successful factors and characteristics of award-winning animated films, as well as the relationship between abstract psychological experiences and specific elements. The interview results from multiple fans will be simplified using the KJ method and synthesized into an evaluation structure diagram to establish the correlation between affective charm factors and animation film elements. The main charm factors that influence the preference of award-winning animated films among fans will be summarized. Finally, the identified charm factors will be used to design a quantifiable online questionnaire, and the results will be analyzed using Quantitative Theory Type I. The research findings reveal that the four main charm factors of Oscar animated films are "plot content," "character design," "artistic style," and "music design." These are the main evaluation criteria that attract fans and explain their reasons for enjoying these films. In particular, the plot content of animated films leaves a lasting impression, inspires and touches the hearts of viewers.
