Nursing staff often experience symptoms such as anxiety, depression, insomnia, and fatigue due to work-related stress, which eventually lead to chronic fatigue. Social support plays a critical role for nursing staff and helps improve physical and mental health. However, there is limited research in Taiwan on how social support affects chronic fatigue. Therefore, this study aims to examine the relationship between social support and chronic fatigue among nursing staff. This cross-sectional study involved 299 nursing staff from a teaching hospital in southern Taiwan. Data were collected using a structured questionnaire, including demographic information, the Social Support Scale, and the Chronic Fatigue Scale. Statistical methods included one-way ANOVA, independent t-test, Pearson correlation, and univariate and multivariate general linear regression models. The results showed that the average scores for "colleague support," "supervisor support," "family support," and "friend support" were 34.02, 25.08, 40.35, and 33.61, respectively, with an average chronic fatigue score of 16.50. Pearson correlation analysis revealed significant negative correlations between "colleague support," "supervisor support," "family support," and "friend support" and chronic fatigue. After controlling for basic variables, the results of the multiple regression analysis showed that supervisor support (β=-0.33, p=.018) and family support (β=-0.15, p=.021) significantly explain chronic fatigue. The findings indicate that supervisor and family support can effectively reduce chronic fatigue. It is recommended that hospital administrators provide timely workplace support and organize family-friendly activities to reduce chronic fatigue among nursing staff.
