In light of technological advancement and pursuit of efficiency, the conventional understanding of the development and realization of architecture, from design, construction to operation and maintenance, with highly specialized division of labor, resulting its composition and process being more fragmented than ever. Consequently, the understanding and reading of architecture is often inorganic, or over-simplified and solely dictated by the architect. However, the mergence and shaping of architecture is not a private matter, it is a series of interconnected actions with distinct and related purposes, participants also become influencing factors in formulating and determining the overall value of architecture. Each participant comes with a set of embedded understanding and value, it is the ways in which these sets of understanding and value interact and relate, so-called rules of engagement may have existed along the process, yet these interactions and relations also map out new and modified rules and guidelines, hence shaping the awareness of “self” in terms of architecture. "The Rain in Spring" is the masterplanning project of Feng Chia University’s campus annex in Shuinan district. Core value consists of “ shared joy, shared beloved virtues, wondrous. ” The main building, Virtuosi Hall, is the subject of this research. Methodology of this study is based on documenting first-hand participation, action and observation, including semi-structured interviews of various participants, in conjunction with literature references from Mr. Kengo Kuma's "Weak/Defeated architecture" philosophy and "School Architecture." Setting the development and changes of Taiwan’s higher education condition as greater context, the analyses of documentation pertaining to actions, reactions and underlying attitudes shed light on shaping the awareness of “self” in terms of architecture. The focus of this research may be summarized as: (1) Design concept of “Weak/Defeated Architecture”; (2) The organic and self-determining process of architecture, manifested through a series of dynamic documentary; (3) Exploring the phenomena of how architecture takes shape from design to realization through hands-on participation in Virtuosi Hall. Keywords: The Architectural Acting of The Self, Weak/Defeated Architecture, School Architecture, Documentary, Virtuosi Hall
