In the era of ubiquitous social media usage, data breaches have emerged as significant threats, compromising users' privacy and eliciting varied psychological impacts. This study explores the psychological effects of different types of data breaches on Indonesian social media users, emphasizing the relationship between the nature of breached data and subsequent emotional responses. Utilizing a cross-sectional survey approach, the research targets a diverse Indonesian population to assess their stress, anxiety, and changes in behaviour post-breach. Results indicate that personal and sensitive data breaches invoke more severe psychological effects compared to financial data breaches. Moreover, the study finds that demographic factors such as age, digital literacy, and frequency of social media usage significantly influence the intensity of these psychological impacts. The findings suggest a pressing need for enhanced data security measures and more robust privacy regulations to mitigate the adverse psychological effects of data breaches on social media users.
