Along with the popularity of computer networks, theinformation resources are proliferated. There are lots of directories available as tools for the accessibility to these information, such as Archie, Hytelnet, Gohper, WAIS, World-Wideb, and others, like TopNode project, OCLC''s Assessingn on the Internet. The Rutgers and Pricetonnter for Electronic Texts in Humanities (CETH)all based on the traditional library searching approaches. The Internet Engineering Task Forces provide two kinds of avenues to identify these networked information resources, Uniform Resource Names (URN) and Uniform Resource Locators(URL). Other endeavours, papers as well as proposals presented within the library communities, are mostly projected to review the Chapter 9 of the AACR II and to modify the USMARCo adjust these new resources. The main purpose of this thesis is to examine the above mentioned efforts, and try to find the way suitable for processing these new kind of information resources. Results are found that the modification of its Chapter 9 of the AACR II and the USMARC will be satisfied to manage the networked information effectively. The final part of this thesis is to investigate the management of Chinese materials in the Taiwan Academic NETwork (TANET). To cope with these new materials, some modifications of the China Cataloging Rules and the Chinese MARC are also recommended.
