The impact of library automation and network nowadays me to do
research into the cataloging education in Taiwan about present
status, its problems, and its ideal development, also,
cataloging educator''s and cataloger''s opinions about the
education in Taiwan and how to adapt the present situation of
the cataloging education in Taiwan. By mailing the
questionnaires to all the cataloging educators in the library
schools and some of catalogers in the automated libraries is my
survey method. After studying the documents of cataloging
education, it about the issues of my thesis. The results of my
study are : "Classification and Cataloging 1", "Classification
and Cataloging , "Library of Congress Classification" and
"Library of Congress Subject Heading" are four courses taught
in school in Taiwan now. Visited cataloging educators and
catalogers both agree on "The cataloging education in library
education has its important and "School cataloging education
plus library cataloging training is the best cataloging
education." Visited catalogers think we to enhance the teaching
of the library automation in Taiwan. The skills of cataloging
which they have are matched with their need, also, the skills
can be trained from the schools. Finally, I sum up the visited
educators'' opinions of how to adapt the impact of library
automation and network, and cite documents to plan the ideal
development of the cataloging education in Taiwan.
