本研究旨在探討工資性別歧視對兩性勞動參與決策之影響.在勞動經濟學
領域,工資歧視一直是廣受討論的課題,然而一般工資歧視的實證文獻,在
分析上隱含勞動供給為無彈性的,而未探討工資歧視對就業的影響效果.惟
Baldwin and Johnson(1992a)指出,若勞動供給線為正斜率的,僅就工資歧
視進行討論,將會低估工資歧視對受歧視者就業的負面影響.文中除了採
Oaxaca(1973)的工資差異分解公式解析工資差異外,也仿照Baldwin and
Johnson(1992a,1992b)的三階段估計方法,對兩性工資率與就業方程式作
估算.並以1996年5月行政院主計處之人力運用調查原始資料為研究對象,
以了解台灣工資性別歧視的現狀,且進一步分析工資歧視對兩性就業的影
響效果.實證結果顯示,台灣勞動市場中存在工資性別歧視的現象.男女就
業者的工資總差異為50.455元,其中性別歧視的部分約佔10.35%至48.68%.
其次,工資歧視的現象會使得男性就業者的市場工資率較高,導致男性勞動
參與率提高,使得男性就業人數增加;而女性勞動者則面對較低的市場工資
率,造成女性勞動參與率下降,同時女性的就業人數亦減少.總括而言,整個
社會的總就業人數減少.
The purpose of this research is to discuss the effects of
wage discrimination on labor force participation in Taiwan. In
the field of labor economics, there are numerous empirical
studies of male/female wage discrimination. However, most of
these studies ignore the effect of wage discrimination on
employmnet. As Baldwin and Johnson(1992a) pointed out, if labor
supply curves are upward-sloping, wage discrimination would
affect not only male/female relative wage emplyment rates.
This research adapts not only the Oaxaca(1973) method to
estimate wage discrimination effect but also a three-stage
approach to estimate the effect of wage discrimination on
employment as suggested by Baldwin and Johnson(1992a,1992b).
The data employed inthis research is the 1996 Taiwan Manpower
Utilization Survey. Through this research, the current
situation of wage discrimination in Taiwan may be explored, and
the effects of wage discrimination may be analyzed. Several
empirical results are found in this paper. First of all, the
effect of wage discrimination in Taiwan exists. The wage
difference between male andfemale is 50.455 NT dollars, and the
part attributed to wage discrimination is ranged from 10.34% to
48.68%. Moreover, the existence of wage discrimination will
induce a higher employment rate for men and a lower employment
rate for female. As a whole, the total employment in the
society is reduced due to wage discrimination.
