The purpose of this study is to examine how social classes affect self-direction personality through the mediators of working environment. Given the variables of “sex” and “age” are controlled, the path analysis was used to examine the relationships among “social classes”(including socioeconomic Index, education, and income), “characteristics of working environment”(such as substantive complexity of the work, closeness of supervision, routinization of the work, styles of supervisor’s leadership, and corporate culture), and “degree of self-direction personality”. The data set used in this study includes 1,018 full-time employees whose ages are above 15 or even older. Finally, the results can be summarized as follow: 1. Socioeconomic index and income of social class indicators influence the degree of self-direction personality through the mediator of substantive complexity of the work. 2. Education and income of social class indicators influence the degree of self-direction personality through the mediator of closeness of supervision. 3. Education of social class indicators influences the degree of self-direction personality through the mediator of routinization of the work. 4. Socioeconomic index and education of social class indicators influence the degree of self-direction personality through the mediator of styles of supervisor’s leadership. 5. Socioeconomic index of social class indicators influences the degree of self-direction personality through the mediator of corporate culture. In a word, this study indicates that the higher the occupational prestige, education, and income, the more possible of individuals to work in a working environment which might foster the development of self-direction personality. All these structural imperatives of working environment, such as substantive complexity of work, closeness of supervision, routinization of work, styles of supervisor’s leadership, and corporate culture are the mediators between social classes and personality. In other words, the research confirms that job characteristics, leadership styles, and corporate culture are significant mediators in the socialization process of personalities.
