當代著名的社會學家鮑曼(Zygmunt Bauman)於一九八○年代末期開始,介入了學界所謂的「現代/後現代」議題。本論文主要對焦在鮑曼道德/倫理論述於一九八○年代末開始以「現代/後現代」的姿態介入到道德/倫理議題到二○○四年鮑曼道德/倫理論述的持續開展為止,並試圖勾勒出鮑曼道德/倫理論述開展的樣貌。
而鮑曼道德/倫理論述的開展,依筆者自身的關懷來歸納之,可約略分為三個主要階段。第一階段,也就是對「現代性」的反省,這一時期的鮑曼主要關注「現代性」對「道德」的抹煞作用,並把「現代性」的特質與「大屠殺」之間親近性凸顯出來,也由於鮑曼對「現代性」與「大屠殺」的反省,鮑曼認為其研究成果可以提昇為一個一般性的道德社會理論(主要用來解釋「道德」的根源),以替代涂爾幹(Durkheim)對道德的理解。第二階段,因應從「現代性」到「後現代性」的轉變,鮑曼主要以勒維納斯(Levinas)為基石,致力建構其「後現代倫理學」。而鮑曼第三階段的開展,便是「液態現代性」(liquid modernity)的提出,以及超克「液態現代性」的方案之提出。
鮑曼對「現代性」、「後現代性」、「液態現代性」的倫理回應,構成了我們的考察的重要軸線之一:什麼是鮑曼所謂的「後現代」?而鮑曼所謂的「後現代倫理學」又意味著什麼?「液態現代性」的降臨又意味著什麼?我們應該如何對「液態現代性」做出倫理/規範的回應?這是本論文試圖回答的主問題。
Zygamunt Bauman, the well-known contemporary sociologist, has started his research on the issue so-called ‘modernity/post-modernity’ since the 1980s. This essay focuses on Bauman’s studies of morality/ethics, especially from the end of 1980s (he mainly concerned in morality/ethics with the view of modernity/post-modernity) to the year of 2004. The essay tries to portray the main aspects of Bauman’s discourse in morality/ethics.
As to the development of his discourse in morality/ethics, this essay is summed to three main sections. First part is about the reflection on ‘modernity’, which consists Bauman’s concern in how ‘modernity’ has extinguished ‘morality’, as well as to show the close relation between modernity’s distinction and Holocaust. And due to this reflection of Bauman’s, he recommended that his research could have developed to a more general moral social theory (which can be used to explain the source of ‘morality’), which can replace the theory of Durkheim’s. As to the second part, because of the changing from ‘modernity’ to ‘post-modernity’, Bauman mainly constructed his ‘post-ethics’ discourse on the base of Levinas. The last step of Bauman’s development is the statement of ‘liquid modernity’, and tried to overcome the ‘liquid modernity’
Bauman’s respond to ‘modernity’, ‘post-modernity’, and ‘liquid modernity’, with the study of ethics, constructs the keys to this essay: what is Bauman’s ‘post-modernity’? What does it mean by the coming of the ‘liquid post-modernity’? And more important, how to we react ethically to the ‘liquid modernity’? Those are the main concerns of this essay.
