Managing the core knowledge is one of the success factors. Not only the industry promotes the importance of knowledge management, but also the academia observes the development of knowledge management. In this study, we explored the knowledge flow, knowledge originality and diffusion of knowledge management literatures in library and information science from the year of 1990 to 2008.

First, the descriptive statistics of the sample literatures were presented. Second, we explored the knowledge flow among nations, institutions, and authors with the co-authorship analysis. Third, in order to present the knowledge originality and diffusion, we applied the citation analysis to investigate both the references of the sample literatures and those literatures citing the sample literatures. Finally, some of the research results were demonstrated with social network graphics to present the interplay between two different items visually.

The research results showed that little international cooperation is among knowledge management literatures. Canada, Singapore, England and the U.S. are the top four countries with cross-national cooperations. The cooperation of institutions and authors presented small and discrete social network. The subjects of both knowledge originality and knowledge diffusion were multidisciplinary. However, it mainly came from three disciplines which include business and economics, computer, library and information science.
