研究《清秀佳人》（Anne of Green Gables）的學者無一不提到蒙哥馬利（Lucy Maud Montgomery）這部作品跨世代、跨國界的影響力，這本小說在世界各地皆大受歡迎，其衍生的相關作品、商品與旅遊業的結合，甚至能夠維持其小說據點加拿大愛德華王子島的經濟所需。小說中安妮的個性強烈，言談豐富有趣，有著浪漫的想像力，時常沈浸在幻想世界中，外表有著令人印象深刻的紅髮與雀斑。長大後的安妮變成一位氣質高雅、身材高挑的淑女，並有著對知識的熱情，努力為受更多教育努力；但也在同一時期了解了生存的意義，願意為家庭付出自己的一切。
這些女主角安妮身上的各種形象變化是本論文考察的重點，藉由研究臺灣不同時期由張彥勳、李常傳與遊目族編譯組翻譯的三個中譯本，比較三者之間的相同與相異之處，與其所處時代的關係與影響。探索安妮被創造出來的八十年後以什麼樣的形象來到臺灣的讀者面前，從1981年、1991年到2008年這三十年間，安妮在不同時代的譯者筆下形象有怎樣的改變。研究結果顯示，不同時期的譯本中安妮能掌握的權力、空間與力量皆不相同，更加證實同一作品在不同翻譯時空所帶有的當代意識形態。所謂「經典」，尤其是翻譯的經典，實是充滿了異文化與意識形態之間的較勁，是不斷變動的過程。

Almost every scholar mentions its amazing influence across generations and country boundaries when talking about the Canadian author, Lucy Maud Montgomery’s most famous work, Anne of Green Gables. The novel has received great popularity around the world, and still earned enough money for the whole island simply by the profit of its related works, goods, and tourism. The little Anne had impressive red hair and freckles; her uncontrolled passion, amusing verbal skill, and romantic imagination were all part of her charm. However, as time went by, Anne had changed into a slim and tall, graceful and elegant lady, who had enthusiasm for knowledge and a thirst for higher education. Even though, she began to understand the meaning to live at the same time, and were willing to dedicate herself to family.
My study aimed at surveying the changing images of Anne in translation during three decades in Taiwan. I compared the images of Anne in three versions of translation to find out the similarities and differences, and to knew what kind of images she had in 1981, 1991, and 2008 when facing Taiwanese readers after her first born eighty years before. In this comparative study we will know different translations in different times would make different images of the heroine. They all reveal the similar but different imaginations and expectations of the “ideal woman” in a patriarchal society. The translation of classics is in fact a changing process.
