The gap between the rich and the poor has continued to expand, which causes is complex, and it has many expositions. But rare study focus on the individual expenditure behavior. This paper use Family Income and Expenditure Survey data in 2009 to investgate the differences of expenditure behaviors between the poor and the rich. The key findings are as follow: (i)the money use for human capital, social capital and financial assets are inadequate, because of their lack of money, (ii)the poor spend on high proportion of unnecessary expenditure, such as tobacco, betel nuts and alcoholic beverages, although they have negative saving, (iii)the poor have “income illusion” when the value of real estate increase, because they don’t have budgeting habits. In other words, the poor expenditure behaviors affect by the value of real estate.
