根據世界觀光組織統計，墨西哥為世界前十大受歡迎的觀光國家，龐大的觀光人潮，為墨國帶入可觀的收入，直接或間接的刺激了墨國與觀光區的經濟。在墨西哥的主要觀光地區中，又以低緯度、臨近加勒比海有著藍天白沙碧海美景的猶加敦半島最為著名，地利之便也讓猶加敦半島的坎昆海岸幾乎成了北美遊客喜愛的度假勝地。

猶加敦半島，自古以來馬雅原住民的世居地；西班牙人到來後，屢經抗戰、殖民、抗戰至民主等不同時期，馬雅人受到政治或經濟之若干因素而遷徙，甚至移民；但現今在猶加敦半島上的原住民人口比例仍有七成。

在一個觀光產業如此蓬勃發展的場域，當來自世界各地不同的遊客，和觀念傳統等大相逕庭的原住民族群相遇的時候，雙方生活環境、背景不同的情況下，無可避免的碰撞發生後，產生出什麼樣的火花。

在資訊爆炸的全球化現代社會中，面對大量觀光客帶來大量的文化衝擊、價值觀的差異，馬雅原住民的文化傳統與習俗傳承，原住民和自然環境的關係，有了外來遊客的加入後，當地的自然生態是否能在彼此尊重、相互包容的態度下，永續留存與發展。

從後現代主義和全球化與觀光的理論發展沿革開始，續以馬雅原住民人口比例最多的猶加敦州為主要探討地區，後由經濟、社會及環境三個面向評析觀光業對馬雅原住民族社會的正負影響總結。

The tourism represents the junction of aboriginal culture under the globalization environment. It is a opportunity of business and training of sustainable industries.

The study of Mexican culture and reality raises many questions concerning the relationship between tourism and identity of aboriginal culture, and also about the effects of modernization and globalization in those sectors of mexican society.

The activities of tourism not only serve to introduce the culture to tourists but renewing the identity of the Yucatec Maya. The Mayan culture is changed by the tourism and adopting elements of global culture, with modifications imposed by the pragmatic necessity for survival within the capitalist system.
