Existing studies offer evidence that a large fraction of articles published
in economics journals are authored by scholars affiliated with the same
institutions as the editors themselves. Accordingly, editors are often at
risk of being accused of giving this group preferential treatment in the
editorial process. In this thesis, I test for the possibility of favoritism
towards insiders, finding prima facie evidence that insiders have a harder
time getting their work accepted than outsiders. It will be argued that
this confirms that blue-ribbon economics publications actually practice
reverse discrimination against insiders. That is to say, love me love my
cat does not hold.
