In this thesis, it is attempted to investigate the physiological and acoustical charateristics of tenor registration based on the scientificfundamentals of vocal instrument, and simultaneously ro survey historicalregistration theories. Furthermore, it is tend to establish a healthy andefficient process of singing or vocalizing, and then to develop the tech-niques of tenor registration according to this process. Some vocal piecesof different composers are analyzed for example to represent how these tenor registration techniques could be applied to artistic singing. Register regers to homogeneous tone qualities produced by the same mechanical system, and the term registration refers to the process of usingand combining the registers to achieve artistic singing. In the chest register, or heavy mechanism, the vocalis muscle is the most highly contracted. In the head register, or light mechanism, the vocalis is more passive whilethe cricothyroid-- the primary regulator of vocal pitch --is more contracted. In falsetto, the vibration of the vocal folds is restricted to the verymedial edges of the cover, while the body of the folds apears inactive. For singers, according to Venturi effect, the condition of the glottalopening is of greater importance than attempting to manipulate pressurefrom the lungs. The techniques of registration are directly related to the way of singingor phonating. A healthy and efficient method to play the vocal instrumentincludes: comfortably full breath, onset with inhaling tendency, developingboth the musculature and the the coordination remaining near the inspiratoryposition, the feeling of a beginning yawn, and keeping an inner-smile. Withgrowing and maturating of vocalis and intrinsic laryneal muscles, a tenor eventully learns to carry register 3 almost to the bottom of his range, and the tone qualities of register 2 and 3 will become much more approximate. When dealing with the registration problems in any situation, it is the veryessential way to investigate and modify the singing process based on the scientific and physiological fundamentals.
