ABSTRACTShipping industry and Ship managememt is a large capital investment and a complecated management business. Safety of ship and marine pollution pervention are major problems encounted for years.To set up Safety Management System; SMS in comply with international Safety Management Code; ISM Code can provided the safety operation of ship and seafarers, it also can prevent the dangerous eventsinadvance and rapidly improve the safety skill of seafares and shore personnels. Shipping company running business for bulker and passengers should before July 01, 2002 to obtain the Document of Compliance; DOC and every ship should get Safety Management Certificate; SMC with compulsory. Most of the shipping companies still waiting and looking for a easy way or they dont know how to start to set up their own SMS. This study introduce the methods of how to built up a documentedSafety Management System including quality assurance:product ofdocuments and the management of documents with the items related toISO 9000 system of International Organization for Standardization; ISO. This study takes a sample company with its fleet of ten bulk vessels, search for how to goal its policy of safety for ship and pollutionprevention, how to set up documented SMS. define company''s responsibilities andauthority:to appoint a Designated Person(s):provide adequate resources and personnel:how to carry out internal audit and third party assesmentand obtain their DOC to ensure efficient management of ships. Regarding shipboard operation, this study explores how the ships masterto implement the SMS which set up by company, how to motivate his crew to follow up working procedures, properly maintenance the hull and machinery,how to exercise the emergency prepareness and accident prevention:carry out internal audit and third party assesment and granted ship''s SMC to maintainsafety operation of ship and pollution free. This content further study how to keep the standard of SMS and passthe annual verificate and ensure to maintain prosperity of the company.
