Predictive maintenance (PdM) is one of important applications of industry 4.0. Essentially, PdM is to predict the statuses of the machines or equipment by collecting signals and data. Through the predicted status, the maintenance plan can be performed in advance. On other words, the objective of applying PdM is to maintain a flawless operational system by performing the maintenance task for the right equipment at the right time. The value of PdM is to set up the best resource arrangement, avoid the unexpected equipment malfunction and raise the overall utilization rate. However, when introducing predictive maintenance, multiple managerial and practical issues needs to be considered and resolved as well. In this case study, the scenarios of applying PdM in Fusheng Precision Co. Ltd, one of major precision casting company in Taiwan, is introduced. The issues regarding implementing PdM are addressed. The discussion and relevant solutions have been formatted as the case study materials for advanced management course.
