Gravity casting is a traditional casting which has the characteristicof easily to produce. Squeeze casting is a process which combines thecharacteristics of casting and forging. In squeeze casting, aluminum melt solidified in a state of high pressure so that the castings coulddevelop superior mechanical properties. The purpose of this study was aimed at investigating the influence of the metallurgical variables, included the addition of strontium, siliconand magnesium,on the qualities of squeeze and gravity castings and theinfluence of the filling velocity on the qualities of gravity casting.Experimental results indicated that :˙In squeeze casting, adding strontium in A356 effectively improved the properties of elongation and reliability and adding silicon remarkedly improved the property of UTS for T6 heat treated castings.˙In gravity casting, adding silicon in A356 conduced to improved the properties of UTS, elongation and reliability.˙The results indicated that the increasing the filling velocity ( >0.5 m/sec), decreased the reliability of gravity casting produced from different gating system.
