This study used road plan of Civil 3D plane diagram of road, longitudinal profile diagram, and standard cross-section diagram to calculate quantity of earthwork. And by using calculation function of cut-and-fill provided by Civil 3D analysis, the parameters can be changed rapidly, and the quantity of earthwork can be correctly calculated in accordance with the actually existing construction. Therefore, this study can help the construction industry save cost and time. In this study, the area study is Chaoyang University of Technology, which ranged from the road in front of library to the East-West virtual road by the exit of 5th floor of science & engineering building. Using traditional AutoCAD 2D and Civil 3D method to draw the road planning diagram (including the plane topographic diagram, plane design diagram, longitudinal profile diagram, standard cross-section diagram , earthwork cross-section diagram and earthwork calculation table). The differences of earthwork cross-section diagram and earthwork calculation drawn by the two established methods were compared. Then the longitudinal profile diagram was modified once, and the road planning diagram was reprocessed. The changes of quantity of earthwork in the longitudinal profile diagram before and after the modifications made were compared and analyzed. Results are as following: (1) Using Civil 3D to calculate the quantity of earthwork is accurate and quick. All the earthwork cross-section diagram and earthwork calculation table can be updated immediately if the longitudinal profile diagram slope was changed. This can help save a lot of planning time and prevent errors from occurring when planning. 2) The design of AutoCAD 2D provides efficiency works; the data results obtained from it can be stored and are reusable, easy-to-modify, easy-to-download, and etc. More advantages such as dynamically updated data, three-dimensional model processing and calculation can also be seen by using Civil 3D.
