本論文旨在探討英翻中成語翻譯策略，並以來自外交、時代、以及經濟學人的文章為樣本，來分析譯者翻譯時的翻譯策略，以及檢視用中文成語翻譯是否可提高國際事務、外交相關文章的可讀性或更符合此類文章的措詞方式。從十篇文章中探討的翻譯策略有歸化、反話正說、增譯、改寫以及簡化。本論文共匯集四十五個樣本，每一個樣本提供兩個不同的翻譯版本，以做比較以及分析，此外，讀者也可知此類翻譯策略如何運用。雖然研究中所附上的翻譯都能明確的表達原譯文，但使用不同的翻譯策略所帶出的翻譯效果卻有所不同。本研究除了試圖探討哪一種翻譯策略適合政治文章的翻譯，作者也希望為翻譯樣本提供一些建議，希望可以進一步提升翻譯品質。由於國際政治的相關文章與國際關係以及國際情勢密切相關，因此政治類文章的中文翻譯重要性決不容受到忽視。

The thesis is devoted to translation strategies used in the rendition of English into Chinese idioms, with the data source from three well-known magazines ─Foreign Affairs, Time and the Economist. The researcher aims to explore the translation strategies used in these articles in the field of international affairs and examine whether the use of Chinese idioms to render the politics-related articles can enhance the readability. The discussed strategies include domestication, negation, amplification, adaptation and simplification. The current study complies 45 samples and each sample is followed by two different versions of translation for comparison and analysis. The research finds that although the use of each translation strategy can help the translators get the meaning across, each of them can achieve different translation effect. The study not only aims to examine what translation strategies are frequently used in articles pertinent to international affairs, but to give some suggestions to further improve the quality of translation, commenting on the strength and weakness of each piece of translation. Since articles pertinent to foreign affairs are closely related to international relations and world affairs, the importance of the translation cannot be overemphasized.
