Nowadays, project management has received more and more attention not only in Taiwan but also in the world. Due to the intensive competition of global market, the time to market of products must be shortened. Therefore, many enterprises believe that the implementation of project management can bring more benefits to them. Based on this situation, this study focuses on exploring the development trajectory of project management literature and tries to shed some lights for the future research.
According to the results, scholars who want to deeply investigate into the topic of project management could easily find the related classic literature. Regarding to research method, we use growth curve analysis to examine the development stages of project management. Besides, we also adopt g-index to rank the most influential journals and authors in project management discipline. We apply Main Path Analysis Method as the core of study, which includes the Local Main Path, Global Main Path, Multiple Global Main Path and Global Key Route.
The research findings show that using four main path analysis methods obtain similar results in main path. In the Local Main Path and Global Main path, the development trajectory is similar to that of the Multiple Global Main Path. In the Multiple Global Main Path, this study categories project management development into four sub-topics, including project scheduling under resource constrains, the dynamic project management and overlapping process, human resource management of project management, and the knowledge management of project management.
