貝多芬一生共留下十一首序曲，每一首在音樂上都有十足的表現力，遠遠地超越之前作曲家的序曲作品，並具備交響曲濃縮般的緊湊感。這些序曲作品和戲劇或歌劇內容有密切關係，有些是將戲劇中出現的主題，交織在序曲主題內，有些卻和主題完全不相關，只是表現出戲劇氣氛，並且在音樂中暗示戲劇的內容與效果。
此論文目的在於研究貝多芬於1800年完成的《普羅米修斯》序曲。《普羅米修斯》是貝多芬所創作之芭蕾音樂，全曲由序曲及十六首樂曲組合而成，此曲為貝多芬早期的作品，這是貝多芬心中英雄思想反映在音樂上的開端，從此曲的預示到後來《英雄》交響曲的出現，透過這些音樂真正內在的意涵可以知道，對貝多芬而言，這些作品並不在於歌頌英雄人物，而是在於表現為人類幸福和平理想的意念而創作。本論文透過對作曲家的生平、時代背景及創作理念，對此序曲進行分析與研究，進而達到詮釋之目的。

Beethoven composed 11 overtures during his career. Each overture surpassed previous composers’ pieces by far; they consist of a symphony’s condensed and compact nature. These overtures are closely linked with operas; for example, some used the same theme from the opera to blend into the overture itself. Others used theatrical tactics to present the effects in them.
This study aims at researching Beethoven’s overture in The Creatures of Prometheus, finished in 1800. The Creatures of Prometheus is a ballet that is composed of an overture and 16 dance movements. This piece was one of his earlier works. This ballet reflects Beethoven’s heroism philosophy in his output , which also brought forth the appearance of “Eroica” Symphony later on in his career. Through the music one can interpret that Beethoven never wanted to worship heroes but aimed for a goal of expecting harmony and peace in human land. This study will examine Beethoven’s biography, historical background, and compositional ideas, through analysis in order to bring a better understand of the interpretation of the overture.
