歌劇在11到13世紀時就已成形，到了浪漫時期華格納（Richard Wanger, 1813-1883）的「樂劇」更將歌劇帶到高峰。在這個歌劇創作的黃金年代，許多器樂演奏家開始將當時膾炙人口的作品，擷取其中著名的詠嘆調重新作曲寫成「歌劇幻想曲」，讓歌劇透過不同的演奏管道，能夠讓更多聽眾認識歌劇。像是著名的義大利單簧管演奏家巴斯（Luigi Bassi, 1833–1871） 總共就寫了15首的歌劇幻想曲，其中著名的有貝里尼（Vincenzo Bellini, 1801-1835）【清教徒】、威爾第（Giuseppe Fortunino Francesco Verdi, 1813-1901）的【弄臣】都由他改寫成為單簧管歌劇幻想曲。
作曲家賈柯瑪（Carlo Della Giacoma, 1858-1929）用四首詠嘆調作為基本架構，再搭配其他不同主題動機構成全曲。四首詠嘆調分別為【西西里舞曲】（Siciliana）、【在早晨，在黎明】（E stamattina, all’ alba）、【蘿拉之歌】（Stornello di Lola）及【氣泡酒】（Viva il vino spumeggiante）。再穿插【鄉村騎士】最著名的間奏曲及【媽媽，那些烈酒！】（Mamma! Mamma, quel vino è generoso）作為過門，讓整首樂曲更添風采。
賈柯瑪主要使用了裝飾旋律線的方式來編寫他的主題變奏，所寫出來的變奏都為單簧管的技巧開創新的一頁。
本文將針對原歌劇及此幻想曲做比較，為將來想演奏此曲的演奏者有更深一層的了解。

The opera started and developed in 11th to 13th century. The mid-to-late 19th century was the "golden age" of opera which established and dominated by Wagner in Germany and Verdi in Italy. In this golden era, some of the instrument players also try to select some famous arias from the operas to compose a new works in “fantasia” format. So far, there are still many people acquainted with operas because of the fantasias and the fantasias facilitate the popularity of the operas. The well-known Italian clarinet player, Luigi Bassi, (1833–1871) wrote 15 operatic fantasias. The notably works include “I Puritani” of Vincenzo Bellini(1801-1835) and “Rigoletto” on Verdi's. The “Cavalleria Rusticana Fantasia for Clarinet and Piano” was composed by Carlo Della Giacoma (1858-1929) and the basic themes of melody are inspired from the arias of “Cavalleria Rusticana”, the Italian opera created by Pietro Antonio Stefano Mascagni(1863-1945). These arias are “Siciliana”, “E stamattina, all’alba”, “Stornello di Lola”, and “Viva il vino spumeggiante”. In addition, the famous intermezzo and the aria “Mamma! Mamma, quel vino è generoso” were organized as bridge to enrich the musicality. Carlo Della Giacoma applied the embellished melody to compose this variations on a theme, of note, his fantasia works also demonstrate a major technological breakthrough of clarinet. This thesis not only compare the opera and fantasia by analyzing the music style and discussing the interpretation, but also try to offer a good model to the clarinet player who wants to interpret this work.
