Imposter syndrome means feeling incompetent or fraudulent even though you are demonstrably competent, which leads to psychological problems and anxiety for those affected. Past research has shown that people suffer from the Imposter Phenomenon in a variety of situations, such as when they have received a promotion, when parents have raised them incorrectly in childhood, when students have interned in the healthcare field, etc. Social media use is widespread these days. People use social media to connect with others, post their life, and share the news. However, those who spend too much time on social platforms and social networks may suffer from media addiction. Moreover, the content we consume on social media has the power to impact our emotions and behavior daily. Therefore, it is worthwhile to investigate these two constructs, the imposter phenomenon and social network addiction. Goal of this research is to investigate the connection between the Imposter Phenomenon, Perfectionism and social media addiction. This study consisted of 303 participants (female=228 male=75) to compare gender and different generations. They finished the Clance Imposter Phenomenon Scale, the Multidimensional Perfectionism Scale, and the Social Networking Addiction Scale. The samples are analyzed using descriptive statistics and Anova to determine the final result. The final result shows that participants from different generations suffer from Imposter Syndrome and that there are significant differences between them. In addition, most results indicate that the situation is more serious in women than in men on every scale.
