The author was born in Taiwan, an island located among East Asian countries in the northern hemisphere. Growing up under the island environment with complex landforms of plains and mountains, and facing the seasonal changes during childhood, the author tries to record the touching moments of alternating seasons through contact with soil in life and engagement in ceramic art creation. Before the great wheel of the times continue to roll forward, the author faces the way of natural circulation and the truth of life to record and express deeply her blended feelings with the earth through pottery clay. This discourse will start by describing rock disintegration, followed by an integration of the combination of “earth” formed after long-term weathering with “water” and “fire” and the life experience of the author, and then further discuss the relationship between the roles of man and natural environment through ceramic creation. The author is very curious about natural changes because she grew up in the mountains and forests of a rural area, so she looks to satisfy her dream of peeping at the wonders of mother earth by exploring and shaping earth. While observing nature, the author adopts the special morphology generated after disintegration of surface rocks and the pattern caused by torrent movements to integrate the representation and meaning of their images, colors and specific textures into ceramic art creation. By doing so, the author interprets the tests and thoughts experienced and faced continuously under changing environments in the journey of life. With years of experience in pottery, the author sorts out concepts of “disintegration”, “rolling”, “reverse” and “rebuilding” for creation by observing changes in mountains, rivers, mother earth and rocks in the world where constancy and impermanence interweave. Through the process of ceramic material selection and technique expression, the author proposes a creative portrayal of the great wheel of time rolling forward and the time sequence going back and forth. By adopting marks and impressions of age from the past, present and future, understanding the pulse of the track of time through life, and using earth and other elements as source of creation, different pottery techniques are applied to form earth into shapes through high temperature firing. This is for interpreting the hardships and elevations the author experienced continuously in an unsettling environment, and the way of harmonic integration of nature and life that she realized.
