This is a story for my grandma’s family and my little sister. As an eldest grandson, I often attend funerals since I was little. Funerals are not completely horrible to me. Conversely, funerals can successfully gather a family. Family members share their sorrow with each other and then they move on together.
Thus, I take it as a crucial background to do the film work. Moreover, I put some supernatural elements in the story to make audience gradually feel the difference. At the end of the story, they’ll finally find out that the sister who is always by my side actually passed away from the very beginning.
‘Sister’ refers to the most important person in one’s life. Audience can experience the death of family members through the perspective of ‘mine’, who was ten years old then. Audience can also see the feeling of the grown-up one who needed to face up the loss while being a child.
I want to show melancholy instead of sorrow through “Child in Winter.” It’s not about hatred or resentment. It’s about how we missing and memorializing the one who passed away. There’s even happiness in it. It always brings us strong emotional feelings when the one comes to our mind. The memory comes alive through the time we spend with the important one. If you ever feel sad for the loss of the sister or you just think of the beloved one after watching the film, then “Child in Winter” works successfully.
