Abstract
This master's recital performance analysis and interpretation primarily researches into Li, Chi-Chien's Beiguan graduation concert of "Xin Sanxianhui," the ritual play in the first repertoire of "Shang-he-shi." The research is divided into three parts. Through the analysis of the text, vocal and accompaniment in Beiguan opera, I keep a record of the interpretive version of this ritual play performance. First, the research collects and organizes the types of " Sanxian " ritual Plays found in Beiguan. It includes the comparisons of the texts from different sources and records the characteristics of different roles, costumes, makeup, and props, etc. Additionally, it analyzes performance records of " Xin Sanxianhui " found on various video platforms, and highlights differences between versions. Second, the latter two chapters focus on how the Beiguan accompanist, Chiu Huo-jung’s skills are manifested in " Xin Sanxianhui." In addition to recording Chiu Huo-Jung’s articulation and basic instrumentation skills presented in this theater music, I also explore the interpretation of silk and bamboo ensemble accompaniment music with the ornamentations, and the flexible use patterns of suona playing technique for percussion and wind ensemble music. By practicing Chiu 's commonly used musical grammar, his unique musical style of Chiu Huo-jung is presented in the graduation concert. Also, I have added my own understanding and interpretation of " Xin Sanxianhui " to the use of the instruments, tuning methods, pronunciation and articulation, the onomatopoeia rhythmic patterns, and instrumental embellishments. Finally, I translated and revised this ritual play recorded in the manuscript into the version I performed at my concert, including all the vocals and accompaniments used.
