This research aims to compare and analyze the surfacetopography of machined surfaces by some topography analysis methods: Motif Filter Method (MFM), Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) method, and fractal dimension method (FDM). The MFM is a data reduction technique with optimal cutoff lengths. The FFT method characterizes the frequencies of acquired machined surfaces. The FDM is used to find the self-similarity and complexity of machined surfaces. Also, three machining processes are considered as milling, grinding, and EDM processes. In this research, the Motif parameters are calculated and the geometric characteristics of machined surfaces are obtained by the MFM. FFT method with Hanning window is applied to find the composition of surface frequencies. For FDM, estimation of fractal dimension by the variation method has been established. Distributions of fractal dimensions of different group of machined surfaces have been shown not overlapping, and this property can be used to identify the machining processes. With experimental design, the voltage of EDM processes is found significant to the fractal dimension of EDMed surfaces.
