This essay for Madison Branches, is an overlook of the entire thesis project and the
methods undertaken to accomplish it. It will take an analytical view as well as a personal one;
seeing that the writer of this essay is also the director of the aforementioned film.
Madison Branches is a suspense psychological thriller that was made out of a desire to
dissuade people that may be having tough times in their lives, from committing suicide. The
background of the story was taken from a compilation of sources ranging from literature,
video games, films, and personal experiences.
The production’s analysis in this text is analyzed with a three-point perspective; from the
point of view of the creator, the academic, and the audience member. In this way the reader
may be able to have an idea of what was desired to be done, what experts said should have
been done, and what was perceived to have been done.
The genre of Madison Branches is linked to the conventions of those of psychological
thrillers. Two examples of other films are used in this writing to compare similarities and how
Madison Branches fares against other commercial psychological thrillers.
The main theme of Madison Branches is endurance of trials and tribulations. It is the
struggle in life and the endurance that makes some people stronger. There are also a few films
that are analyzed that are connected to similar themes.
Pre-production of Madison Branches started in August of 2012 and stretched to January
2013. The shooting of the film was in the last week of January and only lasted 4 days. The
style of the film was very dark in some places and extremely bright and happy feeling in
others. This made the shoot a little tough, but fun at the same time. Post-production took about
three months.
This report analyzes the genre, theme, and methods by which Madison Branches was
produced and brought together and I hope that any reader will go through it with an open mind
and obtain a full understanding of what the whole experience was like.
