宗教信仰包含了信仰與儀式兩部份，信仰的核心為宇宙觀，而儀式則是信仰體系的外顯行為展現，儀式中的「音樂」不僅由始至終的覆蓋著儀式進行，也將信仰觀念融入於其中。以整個印度教而言，它雖然尊重《韋陀經》（Vedas） 為重要經典，但為了適應不同時代對神觀念的改變，後世為聖典重新解釋是有其必要性，因此不僅產生了為數眾多的印度教派、支派，甚至也影響著其儀式的實踐。
近年在台灣相當活躍的印度教派之一─國際奎師那意識協會（International Society for Krishna Consciousness，ISKCON），是根基於高帝亞‧外士那瓦（Gaudiya Vaishnava）傳統，由A.C.巴克提韋丹塔‧斯瓦米‧帕布帕德（A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada）在1966年於美國建立的，之後長期透過香港輾轉將宗教傳播至台灣。而克伊爾坦（kīrtan）唱頌是其相當重要的宗教「音樂」實踐，內容形式是由許多奉獻者聚集崇拜與唱頌主奎師那的聖名，它不僅是奉獻者重要的修行之一，也是其宗教傳播的方式。本文將呈現台灣克伊爾坦唱頌的音樂運用、樂器使用與週日崇拜儀式間的關係，以關注國際奎師那意識協會在經過多重文化洗禮後，於台灣這樣的「異文化」中，如何理解與實踐克伊爾坦，並且如何透過克伊爾坦唱頌反映出聖典中的信仰概念。

International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), founded by A.C. Bhaktivedanta Swami Prabhupada in New York in 1966, is one of the internationally quite active Hinduism sects in recent years. Different from our stereotype of Hinduism, ISKCON, bases on Gaudiya Vaishnava tradition, worships bhakti yoga which stresses the importance of chanting the names of supreme God Krishna in this Kali era. The superlative way of achieving spiritual liberation, or moksha, depends on serving Krishna by reciting and chanting His holy names.

This thesis studies the uses of music and instruments and the relationship between kīrtan and Sunday-worship ritual in Taiwan. Dealing how Taiwanese devotees understand and chant kīrtan, what the traditional ‘music’ thoughts of Hinduism recorded on their Holy Scriptures, Śrīmad-Bhāgavatam, Bhagavad-gītā, are still maintained in this ritual and how the cosmos concept is reconstructed through that ritual passage.
