Aftermath from education policy liberation resulted with surge of numbers in university and college, and dramatic increase in number of students. Pronounced housing shortage is inevitable, college students are forced to live off campus. Unsurprisingly, planning of surrounding cities simply can not cope or keep up with student population surge. Strong needs from students were dealt with sprung-ups of private housing surrounding campuses, followed by deteriorating living conditions. And gradual worsening of living standards became a norm. So the students living off campus are inevitably forced to accept low quality housing with no alternatives. This study intends to start from modularized design perspective, focus on spaces available for off-campus student single suite rentals, and come up with plans addressing disposition model for student suite. Under current rental constraints, this study also proposes student suite rental enhancements based on factors of practicality and convenience. The essence of modular design strategy is to sort out a simplified model from complexities, and eventually elevate overall performances. Thus, this study starts from modularized design perspective, and explores furniture dispositions and design conditions for college student suite rental. Scope of this study covers both Taipei County and city area. And the process is to locate suitable single suite for students living in Taipei, with attachments of acceptable living space, which is 13.65 square meters, in addition to average rental budget of $NT 6,000. This study also explores both domestic and oversea civilian modularized student suite rental cases, and conducts relevant interview and analysis to compile separate design prerequisites for modularized suite. Then the above data and information are further analyzed based on college student inhabitant flow diagram, followed by using modularized design technique to plan out 63 types of student suite disposition styles. And the suite rentals around Tamkang University are used as simulation cases for practical scheme, coupled with survey verifications. And we verified that using this model can plan out about 77% of student-satisfied suite rentals. And this model can be applied to different spaces and styles, to be used as references by landlords. We hope this model can be widely adopted and students can readily afford to live in suites with adequate space. And landlords can enjoy rent increases, and provide students with relatively enhanced living environments.
