　　本論文是以馬勒藝術歌曲作品《悼亡兒之歌》為研究主軸，並以創作背景、馬勒其他歌曲作品研究為輔助，以探討《悼亡兒之歌》在馬勒歌曲作品中的重要性。其特色如下：一、馬勒對於死亡題材的選用，死亡題材是德文藝術歌曲的常使用的題材，不同的於先前其他作曲家擬人或是擬神化的角度，而是以旁觀者角度，現實與貼切的描寫死亡。二、以保守的歌曲結構提升伴奏的地位。《悼亡兒之歌》五首歌曲中，雖然大部分採用保守的分段式歌曲結構，但是伴奏卻擔任傳遞全曲樂思的重要角色。三、結合音樂與歌詞的連貫性。在調性、節奏與歌詞上緊緊相扣，使得每首歌曲之間連結性緊密，將第一首至第五首歌曲合而為一部完整性的作品。四、《悼亡兒之歌》是馬勒晚期歌曲與交響曲間的關聯性作品。《悼
亡兒之歌》是馬勒的第二部管弦樂伴奏的歌曲作品，隱藏著馬勒晚期的歌曲作品與交響曲之間發展導向顯見的共生關係，並表現出革新形式的影響力，使得《悼亡兒之歌》具有連結性的重要地位。馬勒最後藉著寫作Das Lied von der Erde（大地之歌）得以證明出這個結合歌曲與交響曲關聯的整體關係。

This thesis centers on one of the art songs of Mahler, Kindertotenlieder (Songson the Death of Children). It explores the importance of Kindertotenlieder in Mahler's work by discussing the background of composition and comparing with Mahler's other art songs. There are four aspects of Kindertotenlierder which make the work remarkable. 1. Mahler's selection of the theme "death": "death"s a common theme in German art songs. Unlike other prior composers who anthropomorphized or divinized the subject of death, Mahler described death realistically and truthfully from an observer's point of view. 2. The elevation of music accompaniment through conservative song structure: Although conservative Strophiclied structures are found in the five songs of Kindertotenlieder, the accompaniment plays an essential role in passing on the central theme of the music work. 3. The connection between the music and the lyric: the strong linkage between tonality, rhythm and lyrics makes each of the five songs tightly connected into a complete music work. 4. Kindertotenlieder demonstrates the relationship between songs and symphonies in the music of the late Mahler. Kindertotenlieder is the second orchestral song of Mahler, which hints the coexistence between songs and symphonies in the music of the composer's later days. The innovative form found in Kindertotenlieder deeply influenced Mahler's work afterwards. At the end, Mahler composed Das Lied von der Erde (The Song of the Earth), which proves this holistic relationship between songs and symphonies.
