研究背景與目的
隨著網際網路的普及、上網人口與使用網路的時間和頻率逐年攀升，因為沉迷於網路而造成學業、工作、家庭及身心健康困擾的問題也逐漸受到重視。在使用網際網路的族群裡，學生是較容易發生網路成癮問題的族群，尤其是大專院校的學生更是高危險群，因此本研究將以較嚴謹且具有代表性之大樣本，來了解目前大專校院學生網路使用之現況，以及網路成癮之盛行率。此外，過往國內外有關網路成癮的研究正處於起步階段，對於網路成癮成因之探索，至今仍是缺乏完整成熟的解釋模式。過去，社會學習理論對成癮行為的解釋與預測，一直受到學者的重視；其中，對物質使用之效果預期與拒用物質的自我效能之認知因素，為預測物質使用成癮的有效因子，因此本研究也擬探討上網效果預期與拒網自我效能是否以及如何預測網路成癮的傾向。


研究方法
在參與者方面，本研究按照中華民國教育統計之高等教育類別類分法與教育部網站所提供之歸屬分法，將南區47所大專校院，先後以文、法、商、理、工、農、醫七個區分類別及大學與學院比例來做兩階段的分層，而後以系為單位叢集抽樣，抽足研究所需之人數5,137人。
在工具方面，本研究使用了個人基本資料表、中文網路成癮量表修訂版（CIAS-R）、自編的上網效果正向預期量表、上網效果負向預期量表及拒網自我效能量表。
在研究程序方面，本研究於2002年12月1日至2002年12月20日止，進行為期三週的問卷調查，由受過訓練之研究人員擔任問卷調查員，分別到所抽樣的南區十四所大專校院，依其學務處所安排之場地採團體施測方式進行施測；問卷回收後，由工讀生鍵入建檔；並經鍵入資料除錯處理後，以SPSS/PC+視窗10.0版進行統計分析。資料分析後，每位參與者獲得一份個人結果報告與教育宣傳小品文以及禮物乙份。

研究結果
本研究問卷之抽樣與預計施測人數為5,137人，實際回收4,456份問卷，回收率為86.74﹪；其中有效問卷為4,425份，佔抽樣總樣本之86.14﹪。
在網路使用現況方面，南區大專校院學生平均每週上網時間為16.75小時，平均每週上網8.67次，而最高比例曾被使用過的網路活動是搜尋資訊、每天使用超過6小時最高比例的網路活動是網路遊戲、最常上網的時段是晚上十點到凌晨十二點、主要上網的地點是家中的自己房間與學校宿舍、主要上網的方式方面是學術或學校網路，且多數大學生皆擁有可上網之個人電腦。
在網路成癮盛行率方面，南區大專校院學生有網路成癮傾向者佔全體學生人數的10.3﹪；達網路成癮傾向組較高比例是男性、四年制大學、理學院、工學院、法學院、住在學校宿舍或住在親戚家中及擁有可上網之個人電腦者，並且，年齡較低、成績排名較落後、成績滿意度較差、每月支出金額顯著較高、平均每週上網的時間與次數較多。
在認知因子方面，在與未達網路成癮傾向學生比較之下，網路成癮傾向的學生在上網效果的正向預期總分上顯著較高；在上網效果的負向預期總分上也較高；而在拒網自我效能方面，其拒網自我效能總分則顯著較低。在預測模式方面，發現「上網效果正向預期」、「上網效果負向預期」及「拒網自我效能感」分別為網路成癮之顯著預測變項；但上網效果正向預期是透過上網效果負向預期而影響網路成癮。


結論
本研究發現網路成癮傾向之盛行率約10.3%，顯示網路成癮問題值得未來繼續探討其成因與輔導策略；而在網路成癮之認知模式方面，本研究發現上網效果負向預期是上網效果正向預期和網路成癮間的中介變項，上網效果正向預期將透過上網效果負向預期影響是否網路成癮；而低拒網自我效能感者較易出現網路成癮傾向。

Objectives：
The demand for Internet access on campus worldwide is growing and campus administrators are making the Internet more accessible by installing direct connections in dorms, libraries, offices and labs in recent years. The use of the Internet has become widespread among college students. However, over involvement with the Internet on college campus has occasionally been observed and reported. A great deal of attention has been focused on Internet addiction. Colleges have become perhaps the major breeding ground of Internet addiction.
In Taiwan, the few published studies, based on a large survey, show the prevalence for Internet addiction. Moreover, there are few studies using comprehensive measures to identify the psychosocial risk factors associated with Internet addiction. It is much interesting whether the cognitive factors, explaining the use of substance reported in previous literature, are linked to Internet addiction. Therefore, the present study was designed to use a large survey to estimate the prevalence and examine the cognitive risk factors for Internet addiction for college students in Taiwan.

Methods and materials：
The college students in southern Taiwan were stratified firstly into technical or non-technical colleges and into 7 majors secondly. The cluster sampling by department was further used to randomly choose subjects from each major. Finally, five thousand one hundred and thirty seven students were sampled from the universities or colleges in Southern Taiwan as subjects. The instruments of this study included demographic and Internet Use Questionnaire, the Chinese Internet Addiction Scale-revised (CIAS-R), Positive and Negative Outcome Expectancy of Internet Use Questionnaire, and Self Efficacy of Refusal Internet Use Questionnaire.
All administrators from participating universities or colleges received a copy of the survey with detailed standardized instruction for administration, as well as guideline for use of the survey. The administrator was responsible for arranging the schedule for survey. All surveys were distributed, completed and returned in academic classrooms. Participants were fully informed the purpose of this study and invited to participate in this study. After signing the consent form, they were administered. An incentive of a raffle prize was used. Based on comments from those collecting the data, very few students in class refused to fill out the survey. What’s more, data was collected over a three-week period in the middle of the fall semester in 2002. All surveys were anonymous with no identifying information; consent forms and personal data were collected separately.

Results：
A total of four thousand four hundred fifty six students participated in the study. The final valid sample was 4425, and its response rate was 86.14%. They spent about 16.75 hours and 8.67times per week on the Internet use. The popular types of website were searching engine, and the most popular internet using behavior over six hours a day is Internet game. Besides, they often used Internet in their own room and dorms. Moreover, they made the Internet more accessible by installing direct connections in the academic network and owned their own computers.
On the other hand, the 10.3 percent of participants met the criteria for Internet addiction. The subjects of Internet addiction showed a significant difference on gender, with the number of Internet dependents for females less than that for males. Moreover, they were younger, higher rate of living in dormitory, more prevalent of Internet accessibility by personal computer, and spent more hours and frequencies per week on the Internet use than the non-dependents. Furthermore, they displayed poor academic performance than Internet dependents, and unsurprisingly, they were also more unsatisfied with academic performances.
The t-tests showed that the positive and negative outcome expectancy of Internet use of the Internet dependents were significantly higher than the non-dependents. On the other hand, the Internet dependents got lower scores on self-efficacy of refusal Internet use than did the non-dependents. To determine which, if any, of the predictors affect Internet addiction, a logistic regression including all variable was conducted. The significant predictors of Internet addiction were negative outcome expectancy of Internet use and self-efficacy of refusal Internet use. In addiction, negative outcome expectancy of Internet use was the mediator between positive outcome expectancy of Internet use and Internet addiction.

Conclusions：
The results of the present study showed 10.3 percent of participants met the criteria for Internet addiction and it is suggested that administers should play a primary role in promoting awareness of Internet abuse or addiction on campus by being in a position to both assess the needs of students, and implement preventive programs to decrease the potential risks of excessive Internet use. Moreover, negative outcome expectancy of Internet use was the mediator between positive outcome expectancy of Internet use and Internet addiction.
