This study uses the images of Taichung Wanchun Palace as the main axis to explore the core value of Mazu spirit. It uses semi-structured interviews and participant observation methods, and records through cameras to present the important activities of Taichung Wanchun Palace in audio and video. After research, we found:
1. Wanchun Palace has a long history. Since Kaiji Mazu was invited to Taiwan by Lan Tingzhen in 1721 due to the Zhu Yigui incident, it has had a very close relationship with the land of Taichung. It also entered the Taichung Basin very early, so Wanchun Palace has a long history. The Kaiji Mazu in the Spring Palace is one of the few deities in Taiwan who survived the three major civil turmoils in the Qing Dynasty. It is also a temple that people in old Taichung will recognize. Although the temple is small, its deity is high.
2. The spirit of Mazu lies in loyalty, filial piety, etiquette and righteousness. Wanchun Palace has been promoting the spirit of Mazu through charity activities for many years. Through practical actions, believers can understand how to practice the spirit of Mazu. We hope that believers will have a compassionate heart and subtly convey the spirit of Mazu.
3. Whether faith will disappear due to the passage of time, and whether believers can always protect their faith. From the rise and fall of Taichung's old town and the migration of shopkeepers, the three words "Wanchun Palace" still remain in the hearts of these people. Once a year During the birthday celebration ceremony, you can see believers who have never been seen before coming one after another to wish Our Lady a happy birthday. Faith should have this timeless appearance.
4. In the documentary, the Wanchun Code is specifically included in the script structure. The Wanchun Code includes major events every hundred years, such as the Seven Mothers Association, the Five-State Conference, the Centenary of the Blessed Mother's Coming to Taiwan, Ben Hong Kong's Journey to Hong Kong, and Meizhou Yao Yao Festival, hoping to define a term for the centenary activities of Wanchun Palace through the documentary.
5. In the early days, whenever there was a happy event, people would go to nearby temples to invite the gods to come home to celebrate together. However, after Taichung became urbanized, this custom gradually disappeared. The change of worship habits due to urbanization is worth exploring. The documentary records that there are still temples and communities in Taichung that are accustomed to inviting Mazu. We also hope that this kind of scene will remind everyone of the record of inviting Mazu.
