“The Crossroad” is a project about the relationship between a student-teacher and a high school student. The two boys are different ages and have different problems, yet their destinies become intertwined at a time when they are each facing the most important choices of their lives. The student teacher feels hopeless about employment after his coming graduation, and has to decide whether to give up on being a teacher and start over in some new direction. The student is having a lot of problems at home, with his stepmother, and that makes it very difficult to give the effort to his studies that he must. So, he has to decide whether to stay in school, or become a dropout. Can the teacher be a good advisor, teacher and friend when he is carrying such heavy emotional burdens? Can the boy finish school when he, too, is carrying such heavy emotional burdens.
In Taiwan, the problem of unemployment for teachers is a very real. It, of course, can have a serious impact a new (or want-to-be) teacher’s life. This can have a major effect on the teacher’s ability to interact with their students. This film, a fiction, looks at one teacher’s attempt to deal with this pressure, and the effect that it has on a student who is dealing with his own pressures and problems.
The whole film is 32 minutes long, and is shot by digital camera. It was completed in about 6 months from pre-production to post-production. This booklet presents the whole process of the production. Every detail and difficulty in the production of this film was carefully recorded. The attached documents include a shooting log, and promotional posters. I hope this booklet can provide the future independent film makers some help and advice.
