The purposes of this study are to investigate the types, resources, degrees of help and satisfaction of social support in developmental retardation caregivers and the relationships between social support and family basic data, children basic data, assessment process and service utilizing situation, and then find factors the affecting social support in developmental retardation children caregivers. Purposive sampling was used to select a sample of developmental retardation children caregivers in four institutions in the southern Taiwan and the total sample size is 102. This study tool uses a structural questionnaire including four parts : 1) Family basic data; 2) Children''''s basic data; 3) Assessment process and service utilizing situation; 4) Social support. The software is SPSS For Windows 8.0 in analyzing the data. The results of this study are: 1) 63.7﹪developmental retardation children are male, 33.3﹪is four years old of age and 59.8﹪children have no other combined disease. 2) The main developmental retardation types are developmental retardation ( 31.4﹪) and language developmental retardation ( 25.5﹪). And the developmental retardation levels include mild level ( 37.3﹪), moderns level ( 23.5﹪) and severe level ( 23.5﹪). 65.7﹪ developmental retardation children have disabled manuals. 3) The resources of emotional informal social support are spouse, parents, brothers and sisters and friends. The resources of instrumental informal social support about daily life are spouse and parents. 4) The resources of emotional formal social support are teachers. The resources of instrumental formal social support about information and economic are teachers and social works. 5) The factors affecting degrees of help of social support are mothers'''' education, realistic service utilizing situation and family social status. 6) The factors affecting satisfaction of social support is family social status.
